Inspired by a powerful vision to transform the lives of children in Uganda through education, Pamela’s Children was established in 2019 by our Founder, Pamela Niwasasira. Pamela’s personal journey and dedication to supporting children in her community is the driving force behind our organisation. Having grown up in Katungu, Pamela’s story is a testament to the transformative power of sponsorship. As the daughter of the village pastor, it was only possible for her to attend school through the generosity of sponsors.
Supported by her sponsors, Pamela ultimately earned a Bachelor’s degree in development studies and a Master’s degree in Project Planning from Kampala International University. After completing her studies, Pamela devoted her career to creating opportunities for children in Uganda. She initially led sponsorship programs for the Luton-based charity Mission Direct and later worked with CHIFCOD and the Great Lakes Regional University. During this time, she coordinated sponsorship fundraising efforts and served as an Assistant Lecturer.
Given her experience in the field and familiarity with the local community, Pamela became a central figure for those seeking support in Katungu. When support from other organisations failed, parents and caregivers would turn to Pamela for help. The children she assisted became affectionately known as “Pamela’s children.” Driven by her unwavering passion and commitment, Pamela established Pamela’s Children to further her dream that every Ugandan child has access to education.
Patience received sponsorship from a UK based sponsor via Pamela’s Children. The sponsor supported Patience’s education and she is now a primary school teacher and is happily married with a child.
Supported by her sponsor at Pamela’s Children, Rachel achieved a Diploma in Secretarial and Office Management Studies.
She currently owns and runs a stationary business.
Isaac’s O Levels were sponsored through Pamela Children allowing him to pursue study to higher education. He is currently studying at Kampala International University and is on track to achieve a degree in Public Administration.
During secondary school, Juston’s family found themselves unable to continue financially supporting his education and by his second school year it looked likely that he would have to leave education and seek employment.
However, after Pamela’s Children connected Juston with a sponsor he was able to see his schooling all the way through to university and ultimately achieve a diploma in Business Accounting.
Juston is now the owner of multiple successful businesses. He is currently managing a village clinic which he owns and operates alongside his wife. He also owns and runs a small bull meat ranch.
Juston is a community leader, and he plans to build a school to provide access to education for children who were in a similar position to him when he was helped by Pamela’s Children.
Rachel and her two brothers lived with her grandfather since she was three years old. Financially supporting the education of three children proved incredibly difficult for Rachel’s grandfather who reached out to Pamela’s Children for assistance.
Supported by her sponsor, Rachel completed secondary education and went on to join a saloon while studying at Beauty School.
Following her education sponsorship via Pamela’s Children, Rachel is now a successful business owner and make-up artist. She owns a beauty shop and make-up studio in Kampala.
The seventh of eight children, Precious was sadly rejected by her father who did not want his wife to have any more children. He refused to care for her, preventing her from attending school.
She has been sponsored through Pamela’s Children since May 2022, and loves school. In her last end of term report, she came 1st out of the 63 children in her class!
